CCJ is concerned that low-income people have essential public utilities such as heat, electricity and water. CCJ monitors and comments on proposed policy changes proposed by the Public Service Commission (web link) and the Department of Human Services related to the State Emergency Relief program. CCJ provides community education and technical assistance to community organizations and makes recommendations to policy makers. This article provides information about our work and useful community education resources. Current Issues and Activities Public Utilities Booklets CCJ worked with the Basic Needs Group of the Genesee County United Way and Legal Services of Eastern Michigan to develop a series of educational brochures to help utility customers know about their rights and responsibilities with respect to regulated utilities, such as gas and electricity.
